Clash Of The Titans

SAM Worthington has it easy – he has to portray a character that was previously played by Harry Hamlin. The Australian actor is playing Perseus in the remake of the 1981 film which itself is an adaptation of the story about Perseus who must behead Medusa and then defeat the gargantuan monster Kraken in order to save his love, Princess Andromeda. Liam Neeson has it a bit harder – he follows in the footsteps of Laurence Olivier, playing Zeus.

Okay, Hamlin wasn’t too bad in this particular movie. But at the end of the day, it isn’t so much the choice of actors that’s going to be scrutinised by the fans of the 1981 film. Rather it will be the special effects featured in this new one.

The old version had master Ray Harryhausen doing what he did best – stop-motion animation; he cleverly used animation, miniatures, optical tricks and multiple images to recreate the Greek mythical creatures and put them together with humans. Now, director Louis Leterrier (of The Incredible Hulk) is going to use the latest computer technology and judging from what is featured in the teaser trailer, the monsters here look terribly menacing. So, let’s hope it won’t be bad.

Thankfully, Worthington looks über serious and extremely cool – although he’s wearing a skirt below his gladiator-like armour.
