James Franco will play notorious Beat-generation poet Allen Ginsberg in Howl.

Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman will be writing and directing the biopic, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of Ginsberg's famous poem Howl.

Other stars confirmed for the cast include David Strathairn, Alan Alda, Jeff Daniels, Mary-Louise Parker and Paul Rudd.
